Today’s Friday Blog Challenge is a simple one. Clean up your blogroll.

Jayne, from injaynesworld, recently wrote an awesome post about breaking up with your blogroll. If you need a reason to pare down your blogroll, you will find it here. Jayne is a gifted writer, she has taken a rather mundane subject and turned it into something highly amusing.  While humorous, it is also sound advice.

It’s important to go through your blogroll periodically. Go through it and make sure all the links are live. If the link is dead then get rid of it. If you don’t visit the site anymore then remove it. Your blogroll is a your personal recommendations for your readers. So you want to make sure you are offering the best that is out there.

Make some time this weekend to go through your blogroll. Click on each link and read what that blogger has to say. If they haven’t updated in a few months it might be time to cut them loose. If their blog has taken a different path, one that no longer interests you, then feel free to let them go. Think about blogs you might like to ad to your blogroll while performing this exercise.

When you are finished you will have a pared down blogroll. One that is clean and current and filled with the best blogs out there, one your readers will appreciate browsing.

*******For those not going to Blogher**********

We will be hanging out at Tribal Blogs with weekend having our own virtual blog conference. Instead of the Saturday Night Slumber Party this weekend we will be including the men in our own Tribal Blogs Conference. It was kind of a last minute thing so no swag and only lame appetizers like Cheese in a Can.

I started my blogroll over, from scratch, when I moved to wordpress last week. I actually did pare down, for many of the reasons you list.

I love how the universe sends you what you need when you need it!

Since joining the BlogHer network, I was feeling amiss without a huge blogroll. I had several hand written notes of blogs that had crossed my path, and last night I forced myself to go through each and every one.

Am happy to say, those on my blogroll are there for good reason. I like them.

    Happy Day!

I took Jayne’s advice and went from 150 to 95 in just two days!!!! I could be a commercial, couldn’t I? :) But really, I did and now I’m still working on paring it down even more…my problem is now that I’ve found (i.e. been “saved”) by Tribal Blogs, I keep finding more people to add to my Reader/Feedly. Damn you, Tribal Blogs, damn you! ;)

Oh, and I’m going to hang out at the virtual convention. So that means all of you should too…or not.

I’ve lost my blog roll! How did that happen? Probably a good thing, so I can start afresh :)

    See you later!

Cleaned mine up a bit this morning. It’s still pretty long, though, since I find that’s the easiest way to keep up with all my favorite bloggers. Now to see how many people I’ve offended!

Hi, y’all. (from up north, recently moved down south, trying to use “y’all” in a sentence at least once a day to start blending in with the natives)
Newbie on this site. This is my first comment.

Interesting that this would be the challenge, as I just cleaned up my blogroll this past week! But I am realizing that I should probably clean it up a bit more, to the short list of special blogs/people I visit regularly.

    Saturday Night Slumber Party!?! WT…
What did I get myself into?!?

I was not at blogher, as much as I would have liked to have been… but I wasn’t in town and can’t do this at work. Sooooo I will make this my week project!!! Anyone want to trade with me? “I put you in, you put me in?”

Crap, crap, crap. Not only did I miss cheese in a can I missed the only conference I was interested in going to (it wasn’t blogher). Now I have to clean my blogroll? I know it need to be done but I feel like my mom is giving me a list of chore that I just don’t feel like doing. Can’t I get toilets to clean?

Thanks for a good reminder to pay some attention to our blogroll. It’s also where our link juice will flow. Why not let it flow to a place that’s beneficial to our readers than flowing to a junk yard.
