Every week we highlight a blog from the Tribal Blogs community, this week the spotlight is on Superficial Gallery.
Superficial Gallery is one of the first blogs I stumbled upon back in my Entrecard days. I left a comment and bang, Acadia responded right away and then left a comment on my site. We’ve been leaving cryptic comments on each other’s sites ever since.
Superficial Gallery is just what it says it is. There is nothing too deep happening over there but there is always something entertaining and the hosts are very friendly. Acadia and Vange are always there and are frequently joined by an ever-changing pack of writers who drift in and out like hippies following Phish. What’s more, every Saturday there’s a podcast for people who are too lazy to even open their eyes!
Superfical Gallery is an example of a blog done right. The posts are short and to the point, the site is clean and well kept. There aren’t all kinds of flashing ads all over the place. Everything is explained in the tabs in the header. The hosts are fun, welcoming and a little on the nutty side. The readers are smart, witting and engaging.
Right now Superficial Gallery is hosting a really cool contest. The contest is called Picture Perfect and the gist of is that participants sign up and throw $20 into the kitty. Each participant takes a picture with a premade sign in it and then other participants are supposed to duplicate that sign. For example, you could take a picture of yourself holding the official sign in front of a Big Boy restaurant, then other participants would take a picture of themselves in front of a Big Boy restaurant holding the same sign. Since all Big Boy restaurants don’t look the same you would try to do whatever you could to recreate the original picture. If there was a large woman dragging a screaming toddler out of the restaurant in the other picture it would behoove your to find a large woman and a screaming toddler to walk out of the restaurant when you take your picture. It sounds confusing but it really isn’t. Acadia has posted the official rules here so go take a look. He has even created an awesome Power Point presentation for those of us who need visuals. The grand prize is at least $500, the more participants the bigger the winnings. I’m already signed up.
If you haven’t already met Acadia and Vange over at Superficial Gallery you must stop by now, don’t let the celebrities in bikinis scare you away, there is a lot of fun going on at this website. And, don’t forget to sign up for Picture Perfect.
