Ping –- A cool, high-pitched ringing noise usually heard at weddings when people tap their glasses with silverware. In blogging, pings help notify other blog tracking tools of updates and changes to content.
Trackback — Trackbacks are a manual ping sent to another blog noting that you referenced that person’s post. It must be added manually and is only necessary when you have not linked to that person’s blog. It’s somewhat archaic since WordPress automatically creates a pingback whenever you publish a link. Pingback — The easy way to send a notice to another blog that you published a link to that blog. As noted, WordPress is like a concierge at a fancy hotel — it does the work for you every time you publish a link to another blog.
Backlink — Incoming links to a website. A backlink is any link received from another website or web page. You may recall, from yesterday’s terms, that Google uses incoming links as part of its algorithm to determine Page Rank.
WCMS – Web Content Management System is a software system used to easily publish and manage websites. The most common examples are WordPress and Blogger. The obvious appeal is that it allows non-techies to create and maintain websites with very little training.
